We got our license! Only 7 weeks until Sunrise and the Summer is here! For lineup press release see below or see www.sunrisecelebration.com for more info.
Sunrise Celebration, has been granted a license for the 3rd year! The Sunrise Celebration festival has received its license for the 3rd year of the event, to be held from 29th May-1st June 2008, near Yeovil, South Somerset. The festival, set up in 2006, has an annual footfall of 10,000 people and this year gained its license with no objections from the responsible authorities or locals. Despite initial representations, no local residents attended the hearing to object, after a mediation meeting held the week previously resolved all outstanding issues.
“In the first year we had about 200 representations from local residents who understandably were very anxious as they had no idea what to expect.” Says Sunrise Celebration spokesperson Daniel Hurring
“We have since developed really good relationships with the majority of those living in the vicinity, most of whom attend our event and enjoy it immensely. We were really happy to be able to meet everyone’s concerns in advance of the hearing.”
Sunrise claims to be leading the way for festival sustainability and has recently been listed as the Top green festival in the UK by the Guardian and Virtual Festivals, as well as winning the Award for Social Responsibility at 2006 UK festival awards and being nominated for a further 5 awards in 2007 and being listed on Times online as in the top 20 festivals to attend this year.
“Sustainability and social impact are at the top of our priority list, so locals can rest assured we will continue to address any concerns that come up and we will look after the local environment. We are really glad to have our license, and its full steam ahead now.”
Sunrise 2008 has some exciting new editions to its 13 arenas, and the line-up includes

Alternative Accommodation Options at Sunrise this year
In 2008, Sunrise will host a range of alternative living accommodation options for the discerning festival-goer! No longer is it necessary to spend your days in a leaky (not that it will rain!) tent. Instead why not choose a life of luxury and book into one of our alternative options? At Sunrise Celebration 2008, we will have the following options available. More to be added soon.
Pod Pads: - A real, stylish and unique alternative to traditional camping. Pod Pads are built from wood and come fitted with carpeting, interior lighting and internal and external locks. They are weatherproof, soundproof, secure, safe and cosy. Ideal for storage as well! Pod Pads can stand alone or as part of a terrace - so you can stay alongside all your mates!
www.podpads.com Tipis and Yurts - The opportunity to try the Tipi and Yurt experience is available through Hearthworks, coordinators of the Global Tipi Village. Tipis and Yurts are traditional nomadic tents, that benefit from spacious interiors, an open fire or wood burning stove, and optional furnishings. Great for families or groups of friends. We are currently looking at including Myhabs as well.
Has anybody got any preferences as to what other accomodation options they may wish to see in the future? I have an inkling that people will be looking for increasingly more robust options than nylon tents to stay in. Hopefully the age of the disposable tent will soon be over...
One option we are looking at is bespoke design cabins - either flat-pack build or based permanently on site with wood burners, beds, etc. Would you be interested in such accomodation? Do you prefer nylon tents or will you be looking for other accomodation?
