Minimum
I'm quite liking Rafael Frost at the moment. He first really came to my attention with his smashing remix of Alex M.O.R.P.H. & Rank 1's "Life Less Ordinary", which led to me hunting out his first solo release on Flashover: "City Fiction/Worlds". All good tunes with a pretty unique sound in this day and age. I can say that this tune uses those trademark sounds, but employed in a completely different way to previously. A typical electro house percussion and synth pattern is topped off with Rafael's crazy synths, and a naughty but nice bass effect. This song follows the now common format of employing a big but not over the top breakdown to build tension, then the percussion et al slams back in to what will be a devastating effect on the world's dancefloors. It's not outstanding, and there's nothing new but it certainly lives up to it's title: maximum effect, minimum effort.
Autumn Monday
The second tune on this release is a rather more calm affair, sitting firmly on the side of house rather than trance. A little bit too calm for my liking, but the production quality is top-draw as I would now come to expect from Frost. The song flows in a similar way to Lange's "Songless", with a splash of trance chords drizzled on top for good measure.
Rating:
Not the strongest release under Rafael's name, but it's good to see him trying something different.
7/10
