When Sander Van Doorn started out in his self-built studio three years ago, nobody would have guessed that he would become one of the world's most prolific and in-demand producer/DJs of this decade. With three brand new residencies in the USA plus regular trips to Canada, Australia and countless other countries, Sander has now travelled around the globe over three times with everybody wanting a piece of the lad from Eindhoven.
After the massive 'By Any Demand' Sander returns back to the Nebula stable to drop the excellent single 'Riff'. The name of the track gives you a huge clue to what stands out in this record. The 'Riff' is unforgettably dark and dirty, which drives the track's stripped yet pounding kick drum and hi-hats.
Original Mix
Sander's been producing way too many 'remixes' of old tunes recently, which I see as pointless bootleg sampling purely to gain exposure. His 'remixes' of Arctic Monkeys and Wamdue Project were fantastic production-wise, but for some reason sampled vocals that have no place in trance music. I'm glad to say, the production values have been kept here, and at last Sander has
used his own skills to create a main element worthy for the track. 'Riff' is the most appropriate name for this song; that's what the chorus is. A huge riff that won't leave your head once it's in. Add to this Sander's trademark tech-trance beats and bass and you have a winning combination. Superb work.
Carl Cox Global Remix
This mix will appeal to the more house or techno oriented audiences. To be honest when the song started I didn't expect to hear any of the main 'Riff' in the song, but it is included and Carl Cox has made it even dirtier. A typical driving beat helps the song plod along, it's nowhere near as good as the original but it will help it gain even more widespread appeal.
Rating:
A fantastic tune, which you can't go wrong with.
