We currently have 1000 members who have 0 posts and haven;t visited since 01/01/05.

The question is, do I just delete them? I guess we get nothing from them, so not much point having them on the database,
Warmonger
They probably registered just to leech what was possible (if anything) and don't care about the site anymore. I think it's a good step.
KI
Maybe you should send them an polite reminder e-mail asking to post within the nxt month or so they will ge deleted.

PC!
I'm in favor of deleting them.
Sending them a reminder would be polite indeed. I guess nobody will come back though. Might be worth to try anyway.

I think that's the best way to go about it, people may feel a little aggrieved if they are removed without any forewarning

Give them the next month to become more involved in the forum, if not then wave bye bye to them! smile.gif
Nick
But if they havn't been on the site since the end of 2004 and even before then didn't bother posting it seems pointless even reminding them....all they registered for was to leech live sets.

I say just get rid of them
Aaron D!
Hunt them down and burn them at the stake.

You're probably spot on with the majority Nick, i'm just thinking if we send out a gentle reminder that Trance Alliance is still here, then maybe a few could be tempted to start posting round here?

For the sake of a month, i'd say send out the reminders, then cull the necessary! smile.gif
thijsje
indeed, send them a little reminder they are still a member but not active anymore...

their account is getting removed if they don't make any posts before 01-01-2008
Dodds
Im with Gaz on this one. Although it probably wont make that much difference, I think its a good idea to send out reminders. If it even brings a small percentage back and start posting, it will be better than just deleting everyone. smile.gif
Fly
A reminder for those has already been sent wink.gif I am on the ball. They have 7 days to login or I will remove their accounts.
FOOL_24
I'm one of those and I thank you for the email - it woke me up
meaning that sometimes it is easy to forget when you're busy with life [now work -coming late home

Agree with keeping some of "US" - we are closed to the en of 2007
why keep the ones registered before 2006 and without regular posting

ianmcn
i had actually forgot about this forum aswell

don't u guys think that everytime we reach a problem, we always look to doing something new rather than taking a step back and simplifying?
i think a mass delete would be a bad idea, because all those members who signed up do like trance and so if dealt with properly will come back.

i personally believe that the reason why we have fewer posts is because this forum is way too complicated for the amount of members that we have.
as a starting point, maybe simplifying? maybe the reason why people dont post is because they cant be bothered to be flickering through everysingle
section. if there a more hot topics on the one page, im pretty sure people are more likely to read and acknowledge the information in the topics not only
because, ok it window dresses the forum and makes it look more lively, but its less time consuming. ok that does mean that the forum will be less organised
in the sense that certain topics are going to be mixed with other topics of no relevance, but at the same time is that really an issue? if popularity increases,
and posts increase, then we have a need to organise sections.

mass deleting would be a bad idea because even though people dont post, i bet they still come onto the site from time to time. before any adding or
getting rid of takes places, i reckon we need to sort out the foundations wink.gif

All very valid points, and i have cut back forums, and probably will again in the future.

I will only be deleting those who haven't been on the forum for the past 24 months. And those who have 0 posts. The email sent out saw our visitors nearly double yesterday, which is good i guess.

I want to setup the torrent section again properly, as this helped boost traffic, and it is important we simply as well. Music discussion forums will probably get slightly smaller. I am thinking of relaunching in Jan.

Hey 4 and counting!...
Ok, I'm very sorry, but I'm reluctant (hope this is the correct word!) to post if I have nothing really important to say... not that I've had much time lately... But I'll try to get here everynow and then (as time permits).
There's very limited access to trance music over here in Argentina, but it's getting more common every year. So not much to comment on, really.

BTW Blackened sky got a point. Maybe a simpler forum structure encourages participation.

Fly: very sorprised with the "new" design. Very nice options and usability. The newsletter is great, quite informative. Congrats!
