After what seems like an eternity the mighty Dogzilla return with their latest opus, the anthemic Frozen.
Carrying on from last years legendary Without You the Dogz have developed their sound along the electronica meets rocky road combining soaring melodies with grungy guitars and driving dancefloor beats. Add the Dogz own vocals and you’ve got Frozen, a modern anthem for a nu-skool clubbing generation.
Original, Club and Dub mixes
Dogzilla - Without You. I know some people who didn't like it, they said it was pure Judge Jules cheese. That was of course the appeal of it, you can't help but like it, despite the cheese. Simon Patterson and Richie Kayvan have clearly employed the 'if it ain't broke, then don't fix it' rule on Frozen. They've focused on the piano undertones of the Dogzilla Dub, but kept the male vocal that just has to be sung along to. The formula doesn't quite work for me this time around though. Instead of being lovably bad, the vocal comes across as really camp. That said though, in terms of commercial trance this is a gem. A sing-along vocal, feel-good, naff (for lack of a better word) vibes, play this in a club and you're sure to get a large percentage of the place dancing. Even if it's mostly the girls dragging their boyfriends to the floor. Not sure why there are three mixes here, the Original and Club mixes are far too similar. Just the Dub version would have been fine.
Wippenberg Remix
About as different from the Dogzilla mixes as is possible. Fantastic bassline and the now typical blend of effects that we expect from Wippenberg. The best part about this mix though, is that the vocal sounds great. I don't know how he did it, but it is really well-suited to the grooves that he has created. I guess that is kind of his job though. A great effort as always.
Rating:
Trying to be too much like 'Without You' for me, but it's definitely worth a look.
