Label: Nebula Music

Release Date: 3rd September 2007

Fresh from playing to over ½ million people at stadium ‘DJ’-led concerts over the last three months on his mammoth ‘Elements Of Life’ World Tour, the world’s biggest DJ Tiesto returns with the third single ‘Break My Fall’ to be taken from the UK Top 5-selling artist album ‘Elements Of Life’.

Tiesto teams up with BT for vocal and co-production duties for ‘Break My Fall’, a track already approaching anthem status in the Elements Of Life world tour shows.

Album Version
As many of you on this forum will have noticed, I don't particularly like Tiesto's recent style of music. This song fails dramatically to change that. Typical Tiesto sounds that seem to have no purpose other than stopping the song being repetitive, and a boy band vocal that's a little bit too camp for my liking. Also, I'm not usually picky about the choice of words, but what on earth is Brain Transeau singing about? When the song finally 'peaks', it's not even that exciting. I'll stop ranting now.

Airbase Remix
When I first heard this I thought it was pretty good. I've since come to realise it's amazing. It may be pretty formulaic, but it does it so well. All those thoughts of the vocal being awful are gone, it's used to such good effect here. The song just builds and builds, until you get the big payoff which you can't help at the very least nodding your head to. If I heard this in a club, I would lose the plot. In a very good way.

Jerry Ropero vs. NBG Afterhours Remix
Just to mix things up a bit, this electro style mix is included. Being a trance man, I can't really say I like this. I will however say the vocal is used in typical style as a prelude to the electro beat kicking in. One for the house boys methinks.

Adam Kay, Petti Grew & Soha Remix
A bit more uptempo than the other house mix on offer, I can see the appeal of this. Reminds me of mainstream commercial house, so would definitely do the job in a club. The female sounding portion of the vocal is the focus here, behind a piano-driven synth, which is pleasing to the ears. Not bad, but again I'm a trancer so it's not really my thing.

Richard Durand Remix
He's mixed a few Black Hole classics lately, including Tiesto's own 'Lethal Industry', so it's no surprise Durand was asked to remix this. Typical weird noises and rhythms are the only way I can describe this, but again, I mean this in a good way. The vocal again is used to maximum effect, Durand even cuts it up and makes it part of the craziness throughout the song. One of his finer efforts.

Rating:
One of Tiesto's extremely weak efforts, but the Airbase and Richard Durand remixes save the day.
8/10
