Label: Mondo Records

Release Date: 24th September 2007

After the massive success with Eternal Optimism Steve Anderson & Chris Breame are back in full force under their A/B Project guise on Mondo Records. The next single is without question another club smash, Misconceptions features the key production skills we’ve come to expect from the boys and contains their trademark melody lines. The tune holds the attention with strong deep hard hitting moments interweaved with lush euphoric chord progressions and energetic riffs.

Original Mix
I was never that big a fan of Eternal Optimism. Sure it was an OK tune, but the production just didn't feel right. I'm glad to say that seems to have improved here. The song starts off with a riff that reminds me of Sean Tyas, in a good way though. Your usual trance breakdown follows, but in a slight change from the norm, doesn't lead straight into the big chorus. Instead we're treated with a very teasing techy 'noise' for lack of a better word that builds the energy that little bit more. The breakdown synth returns and does the job it was made for. Nothing new here, but a job well done.

Ehren Stowers Remix
This is the one that Above & Beyond have been caning, under the guise 'Ehren's Massive Riff Remix'. I certainly prefer this over the original mix, it has just a little bit more energy and that's the way I like it. The breakdown builds and builds more in this incarnation, to what seems to be a less cheesy main chorus. I wouldn't describe the riff as 'massive' but it's definitely good to listen to. A solid offering.

Soliquid Walking On Clouds Remix
This mix couldn't be any more different to the others in the package. Much darker, very minimalist and strange to say the least. Not to my taste at all, but from a constructive point of view it flows quite well. Good use of synths to create an atmosphere is all I can really say about this.

Tom Colontonio Remix
Now we're talking. This mix delivers the energy I've been expecting all along. Straight from the off the use of synths and sounds shows this one has intent. Once again the breakdown is pretty run-of-the-mill, but that techy 'noise' I was talking about from the original mix is used to much better effect. No typical trance chorus here, but I don't think it needs it. Probably my equal favourite
with the Ehren Stowers mix.

Rating:
Not groundbreaking in the slightest, but good production all round means this release is well worth a listen, and sure to please the crowd.
7/10
