A report from the Independent newspaper suggests that Peter Crouch will be sold in the January transfer window to Newcastle United so that Liverpool can make a reported 25 million pound bid for Valencia's David Villa. Crouch was singled out for criticism in the Blackburn match after missing no less than 3 golden opportunities to put Liverpool into a comfortable lead.

My two cents: Good riddance.

My two cents: crouch was on fire at the start of the season, and liverpool, like they do with all their strikers, put them under to much pressure, which effects their game.

Crouch is a good player to have in your team if you use him right. I think newcastle will have a good signing if they get him, with pace and height in the strike force, thats deadly.

Benitez has come out and said today that Crouch is not for sale!!

I don't think he'll go tbh, he was doing really well for Liverpool and England at the start of the season as Fly said but he hasn't been so hot recently, due to a mixture of things I think. He'll be back to his best soon I bet

to be honest, i've always thought Crouch was pathetic. For a guy of his size he has a terrible header and his shooting is just as poor. All he really has is good close control and the ability to hold the ball up and now that we've got Kuyt doing that same thing we really don't need Crouch anymore. I never thought he was good enough to don the Liverpool shirt.

And in regards to David Villa, where there's smoke there's usually fire.

Never saw what the big fuss was about Crouch. Yes he's scored a fair few but a hat-trick against Jamaica doesn't make you a legend.

Being a Donny fan, I've seen strikers like him visit us every other week or so playing for Route-1 teams, and not to knock him, he's at least broken from that mould to have some semblance of skill beyond jumping as high as he can. And he's obviously switched on mentally by the way he plays the game and tries to open it up for the other strikers.

But he's not quick enough, sharp enough, he's a little clumsy, and his novelty value against defenders isn't a novelty any more.

He's not a bad striker, he's just certainly not top class. I think he's about Championship standard at best. Taking him to the world cup was a joke though.

I can't see Liverpool being able to afford £25 million until/if there takeover is complete.

Regarding Crouch i have always said he is average at best, he can cope with the Premier League but Liverpool will never catch Man U or Chelsea with him in the team.

Crouch is a good player, but he is not the top class striker that we need to challenge Man Utd, Chelsea and to an extent, Arsenal.

There is some truth in the rumours suggesting that Crouch will leave though - Benitez and the coaching staff are worried that he is starting to believe his own hype and is enjoying the social life of Liverpool a bit too much, something that Rafa simply will not tolerate.

I would be very surprised if David Villa was to join us, we simply do not have that kind of money! I doubt that the takeover will change that either, going from all the speculation the prospective owners have no intention on going on an Abramovich style spending spree.

For someone as tall as Crouch he's heading is really pathetic. Luis Garcia is half his size and scores more goals with his head. Id sell him definitely although we aint gettin Villa as Benitez has stated this on the club website sad.gif

Another cracking goal from the big man, do you Pool fans really want rid of him that much? tongue.gif

yes we do!

Did you see the two golden opportunities that he also missed with his head from straight in front of goal? That's why we don't rate him. He makes the hard things look easy but he also makes the easy things look extremely hard. wink.gif

I think if the fella is used in the right way he can be a real asset to the team...OK so he does miss some great chances but he is always a threat...I mean how many defenders will beat him to a ball launched in the air?

As for David Villa...class act but they will want more than £25m for him, I think thats stated in his contract
