Event: Armin Only
Date: 11-11-2006
Time: 22.00 – 07.30
Place: Ahoy’ Rotterdam, Netherlands
Saturday afternoon, 5.45 PM, I grap my stuff, get in the car and drive to Rotterdam. My destination, Celwin’s (Cellec) place. When I arrive we talk a bit about the evening and have some dinner. Much time left before taking off, so a bit of producing and sharing ideas about the night is going on
8 o’clock PM, we decide to leave the house and drive to our friends. At 9 o’clock we leave the house of our last pick-up and we drive to the southern part of Rotterdam, Ahoy’ is our destiny and we feel it’s time for another great party night!!!
So far the intro, now on key with the whole event described by me as I remember and enjoyed it
We arrive in the row in front of Ahoy’ at about 9.30 PM. Not that many people waiting, but it’s still early so we talk a little and make some contacts with other visitors. 10 PM, everybody screams, but nothing is happening (same every year

DAMN that took long to get inside… crowded and a small entrance is not really a good thing… but anyway at 22.45 we finally manage to get our jackets into a locker and can go in.
Entering the hall it looked amazing! Way way WAY better show than last year, lot of blocks on the roof with lights in it, big stage and of course the well known progressive sounds for starting the night
After getting a beer to start the night we decide to walk as far up to the front as possible and we come out at the right corner in front of the speaker system. Same corner we were last year and that was a great corner, so we decided to take our place and let everything come our way!

Same as last year Armin provided us with a 3 hour opening set where he was standing behind a big white wall where they projected his body with the help of lights in his back, so everytime Armin’s shadow showed up the crowd screamed and clapped their hands!
During the intro set I heard many, many good tracks which I can’t remember all, but these were between them:
Snow Patrol – Chasing Cars (Blake Jarrel Remix)
Jose Amnesia ft Jennifer Rene – Louder
Andy Moor vs Orkidea – Year Zero
Bodyrox – Yeah Yeah (Markus Schulz Remix)
Sunlounger – White Sand (with Eller van Buuren live on guitar)
Armin van Buuren ft Gabriel & Dresden – Zocalo (with Eller van Buuren live on guitar)
Midway – Cobra (First State First Aid Mix)
Herman Brood – Saturday Night (Armin van Buuren Remix)
And many many moor, but I can’t remember all...

At 1 AM the track spun was getting out and we finally started off! A big heartbeat took us to the opening off the set which included, lot’s of bass, lasers, fireworks and a big bang! The big white wall fell down and there he was, Armin van Buuren!!!

Armin spins lot of good tracks at this time! Trancy, not to heavy loaded and just very very danceable! I texted around like mad at that time where everybody was, Patrick (AIT), Evelyn and Pegasus must have got mad coz of me
Our first performer (beside Eller van Buuren during the opening set) is Justine Suissa

The show keeps on going and then something refreshing comes… Dutch pop/rock artist Ilse de Lange shows up and damn… that could heve been the best thing of the night! What a voice and what a nice remix from The Great Escape, the track which she sung and is high in the top charts here in Holland!!!

After Ilse de Lange we decided to go get some drinks and that was when Evelyn texted me she was at the place we were… how nice we just left that spot
Next up after Ilse de Lange was Rank-1 with a sick Live performance!!! They opened up with Airwave

Some time later, the next performance is starting! At this time I went looking for Patrick and Eve in the middle of the front crowd as I knew they were somewhere over there.. too bad so many people are standing there as it was difficult searching, but I found Eve again and she introduced me to her friends and I stayed a little longer. At that time Susanna came on stage

The night was long so far and we decided to get something to eat. During this walk-away another guest showed up, Cesar Zuiderwijk, drummer of The Golden Earring, drummed live at the track Armin vs M.I.K.E. – Intruder. When we went back to the stage Armin played Bolier & Coenraad – Mighty Ducks.. damn I missed that one as it’s a sick track!!!
An act I will not say much about is some Indian dancing and rapping around
So the evening flew by and before we knew it was 6 AM already!

The hall was getting more and more empty, but we stayed till the end and that was a good thing as Armin closed with Paul van Dyk – For An Angel, followed by a walk across the bridges in the hall. I managed to give him a hand and a

One more track after the MC thanked the audience and Armin… that track was:
Motorcycle – As The Rush Comes (Armin van Buuren Universal Religion Remix)
The lights went on and we started walking outside! Too bad I couldn’t find Evelyn as we needed to say goodbye of course, so I called her and she was with Patrick waiting outside! We gave each other a big hug and said goodbye, see U in UK Eve
That was it, Armin Only 2006, one hell of a night with good music, great performances, massive light and lasershow and a great ambiance, next time we go again
Final Report
Music: 7 a bit too much harder stuff containing techtrance and heavy uplifting tunes.. more progressive or trancy-er tunes would’ve been nice. Good thing was he played a lot of Electro too!!
Performances: 9 Wicked Wicked Wicked, all I can say!
Show: 8 Very good, much better than last year, but they had some problems halfway the night… too bad
Sound: 6 Lack of quality, problems with the back speakers and not that loud for almost 3 hours!!! Could have been much better!
Crowd: 7 Ok crowd, but lot’s and lot’s of old pill-taking dirty looking people which dance annoying and stuff, but that was more till the end, enjoyed myself
Armin: 9 This guy just rocks at the decks, can’t do anything wrong technically and really played what the crowd wanted !!!!
Overall: 8 Event was better than last year, great performances, great show! Too bad of the sound quality and the old crowd
Well that was it so far, hope you all had a nice read and I wan t to thank Cellec, Evelyn and Patrick for showing up that night!! Too bad we missed Pegasus… and I didn't took pics form us
