Matt Darey is no stranger to the Global DJ Broadcast turntables. The Leicester born DJ and producer has conceived a plethora of outstanding productions and remixes throughout the past decade, and his reputation within the trance music industry is as strong as ever. His guest mix in July is his second appearance of the broadcast this year.
For me, there are always two things that is guaranteed when listening to a Matt Darey mix – there will be quality tunes in abundance, and they will all be seamlessly mixed. On this occasion, Matt doesn’t disappoint.
He begins the set with a track remixed by one of the in-form producers of the past 12 months, Andy Moor. Jose Zamora & Damien DP – Transatlantic offers that typical Moor groove and tingling melodies, and acts as a great opener for the set. Next, the driving mood and melody of Markus Schulz & Elevation’s remix of Eluna – Severance fills the speakers, and the set begins to gather momentum. A slightly older track in Synergy’s Hello Strings gets a spin, however Matt opts to utilise the excellent Flash Brothers remix.
One of my favourite tracks of the moment is next in line, David West Featuring Andreas Hermansson – Larry Mountains 54, a fantastic track that will be a sure-fire hit when officially released on Anjunadeep.
Moving on, and Matt showcases his remix talents in the next track, with Headstrong’s Close Your Eyes. The track features the vocal talents of Tiff Lacey, who had previously worked with Paul Oakenfold on his track Hypnotised in 2003. Over the last couple of years Matt has altered his production style, and as a result his work sounds very fresh and effective. This is very evident in Close Your Eyes.
Up next is tune of 2005 candidate Above & Beyond vs. Andy Moor – Air For Life, which never ceases to make me smile anytime I hear it. We are then treated to another of Matt’s new productions, Eternity, of which I am a huge fan, with it’s shivering opera-style vocals working to great effect.
Matt continues the classical theme in the next track, the eagerly anticipated Armind release from up and coming trancers Mike Foyle and the Signalrunners. Love Theme Dusk has received huge support from the main players in the industry and should do well when released.
To conclude the set, Matt decides to add a little German flavour, with Kyau vs. Albert’s remix of Ayu’s Appears, before finishing with rising star Alex M.O.R.P.H. and his track New Harvest. Both very good tracks in their own right, and provide the uplifting prowess required to signify the complete Matt Darey experience.
Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable set, and one that is well recommended for those who love their euphoric trance. Matt Darey may be best known in the trance community for being an outstanding producer, however he also richly deserves praise for his talents as a well polished and consistently good DJ.
