On 2/17/06 I had a once in a life time amazing oppertunity to see Tiesto and Paul Van Dyk on the same night only a few blocks away from each other.

Here is my Review with a link to the pictures below. Enjoy smile.gif

Once I heard Tiesto was spinning at the Spider room I had to go... but I also had to find a way to get in since it was a privite party. With a couple quick emails and phone calls I got invited and I found out that Tiesto was not going to play at 2:30 like it stated on the eflier that was posted on clubplanet.com, but he was going to start at 10:30. I meet up withmy friend Drew at 10pm but it was to early so we Grabed a bite to eat at Honey. Honey is actully in Avalon! A very hollywood resturant with Yummy food. After we eat it is time to go to the Spider room. There was no problems getting in but it took awile for the party to start.

I have never been to the Spider room before on a Friday. The vibe was differnt. And the sound was awful! The most beautiful people- big scary guys hang out here. There are a lot of places to sit but you have to Pay a lot of money to do so. The Vibe was very very hollywoody. Even though I dressed nicer then usual I still felt like I "did not fit in"
Time Passed and so did the Set time for Tiesto. 10:20 became 12 and that became one. I saw more indersty people and Guiv one of the Spundae founders cleaned shaven in a suit!

Tiesto arrives and right a way he is Mobbed by a ton of people. Wanting to say hi, shake his hand, take a picture and talk to him. He is a celeberty. But there is something about him everytime I see him. Once he flashes that smile I get stars in my eyes and get all giddy like a tenny bopper. I get so close to him but just stand there. I do not want to fight or be all over him like everyone else. I could tell he was overwelemed and a little annoyed by it. He quicky sits in a VIP table and has 4-5 bouncers blocking the way!
He Gets up and gets behind the decks on the Avlon's patio and starts his set.

His Frist song was really housey.. (for those of you who say Tiesto dosn't play house Music) Track: "Talk like a Stranger" Not sure of the Remix. He Mixes into his second Track... if you want to call what he does Mixing??? The horses where let out and raced into Trackreck lane. It was bad. And then to the 3rd Track: "Open your eyes"(N&k) again reckage.

While I was there Tiesto played some amazing Tunes! like Do what you want(rmix) But there was no flow to his set. I felt like he was picking Tracks out of his cd wallet with out even thinking about putting them in to the Cdj's and wrecking them together. I was kinda disapointed. I think if he wanted to prove his point to the "community" he should have put more "effort" in to his set and not be all... HAHA Look at me I am BETTER then PVD.
But it is Tiesto. He has this presence about him that I can not get over.

At 1:40 Drew and I headed over to the Vangard to catch PVD. The crowd and PVD was going off! It was not uber packed and the vibe was amazing.
Once I walked in and put my jacket down I was dancing my ass off. I ran into so many TA's and every one was so happy. I also made my way to the front. Instead of pushing and shoving People made room for me so I could take pictures. Then I kindly let someone else have the spot. It was a little too packed in the front for me so I danced more twords the middle, on the side or in the back.
The sound at Vangard is out of this world! Every club in La should get it. So clean and crisp no matter where wondered off too.

PVD Set was AMAZING! He was throwing down some amazing tracks that I have no idea what they where. And mixing them so so nicly into the new one. PVD also had a lot of energy. He was jumping up and down, connecting with his fans and never lost sight to set. I have never seen him like this. It was a nice change.
When he mixed That Track. Crule Intetions song "Every me and every you"- The other side it was unreal. WOW. He also played a lot of his own productions as well.( Crush, Time of your lives, other side, Nothing but you....)
Some of the Tracks where really odd.. a little too odd for my taste. But they where new.

At the end of his set it was 4am. And every one wanted more. So they got more. I could tell the bouncers wanted to go home but they let him play. After that track he the still packed Dance floor still wanted more and Bam we got Mindcircus. It was amazing.

After his set he was wisked away. They where telling his fans he would be back. I told myself and Don. That there was no way he was going to come back. I have been in situations where staff says the Dj will come back and they never do. I just stood there like a idiot! But PVD did come back. He was kind enough to sign autographs, take pictues, and chat a little... even when his flight had to Leave at 7am

It was now 4:30ish and time to walk back over to The Spider Room. We where told Tiesto was done Spinning but haning out. I knew Drew was tired and not feeling well and I was pretty beat too.. But I told him 5 minutes and then we will go.

Sure enough Tiesto was still there hanging out. He looked my way and I waved. Then got my picture with him But before I got that picture he asked me if I lived in NY or Maimi. So I told him I lived here in La. He remember me when I met him in Las Veagas for Day 1 Woot Woot.
He soon then left and it was time to go eat and go to club bed.

I had such an AMAZING time last night. I was in a Trance lovers Dream. I got to see Tiesto and PVD all in one night! I am still on a little cloud right now .

But I do have one more thing to say... Tiesto really needs stop crying his river... build a brige and get over it..... PVD such a better Dj when it comes down to it. Much Much better. But it never falis everytime I see Tiesto I am the happiest gril in the world. *sigh*

I used to like both equally. But something change in tiesto recently sad.gif . He's style of trance not the same anymore,. I wish I could have old tiesto back. PvD get better and better everytime. Rock the Space all the time I see him. He's #1 my opinion and I hope he will keep that up.

laugh.gif I really doubt that really happened. Its amazing how ppl change their views on a dj when they become popular. laugh.gif

Trust me, that review was written by one of Tiesto's biggest supporters over the years. So it happened. wink.gif

imo paul is way better in the technical part... sets build up, mixing skills, just awesome!

but tiesto's entertaining the crowd wub.gif dear sweet mother of moses how does he do that... if you're at a tiesto gig there's just a special vibe hanging around, i think only people who have been to one of them understand me...

I dont really agree with you there.

I heard so many sets from PVD where everything is goin perfect i.e. track selection, mixing and then he will play a track that just doesnt fit at all in the set. blink.gif

Im not actually saying that Tiesto is better than PVD coz most of the time i hate Tiesto track selection, im just saying that most ppl criticize Tiesto's mixing just because he became popular. wink.gif

to me it seems like when a DJ hits number one they just fall off.... So far into 2006 PVD hasnt done anything special yet. But its still early. I never really liked his radio show..same stuff over and over. In my opinion I do not see PVD being number 1 again. Just wont happen. More than likely it will be...Armin. Good review to read though. Good job cool.gif

i guess... i mean PVD was number one before, and climbed back to the top recently... if he plays his cards right he might still be there... but then again DJMag is full of s**t so i dont know

Tiesto has an amazing appeal..i think its tiesto's personality is what attracts everyone....i remember going to TIC 2006 in Miami, FL in January...i was front and centerish and i had this girl on my shoulders and we were smackdab infront of him and he smiled and waved...it was great becuase tiesto shows he loves his fans most of the time..and his smile is real eye catching...PvD is not that close I THINK...but he is a better DJ without the shadow of a doubt...

i understand what u mean...the thing is that PvD is real isolated with his tracss...hell play the usual PvD favorites [Crush, The Other Side, Without You (which he strongly suipports)] but hell play something he personally likes and half the time the crowd wont react to it...sometimes hellplay a breakbeat or a freetyle or old track..its trange...@ UMF he ended with Without You by Dogzilla...then the MC said if we wanted more...whihc we did...so he played one last tune...and it was some breakbeat jam from the early 90's....PvD is like that but i still think he's superb...being a DJ...but not as experienced of course...his transitions, track selection, and order of tracks is amazing...

mucho amor for PvD from the states

It's not the dj's that's disappointing...it's us. We were amazed and entranced with seeing/listening to dj's such as pvd, tiesto, avb, etc. but like everything else, you do too much of it, it loses it's luster.

I rank pvd #1, avb #2, and tiesto #101 ->he doesn't even make the dj mag list. hehe.

I have been listening more to danny howells, kleinenberg, nick warren, this way when these guys come in town, it's new music.

When the Review Section was moved back to the forum Evelyn volunteered to create the new threads and put the old reviews in them, so that explains why most of the threads are started by her and not the original authors. smile.gif

Still a great review though. smile.gif

I was on Parties of Tiesto in Slovakia, Austria and on Pauls party in Czech Republic. Paul was better for me. I liked the Tiestos party very much too, but Paul had some feeling that Tiesto dont had on This party. But still - I have the complete discography from Paul and Tiesto too! 123yahoo.gif

I too used to hold Tiesto as the number one DJ but since the Magik days he has gone too melodic, too soft and too full of his style to react adequately to the wants of the crowd. PVD on the other hand has released himself from a rigid style, reacts to the energy of the crowd better and has a harder more danceable sound IMO.
