Summer 2004 saw Meganite debut in the party island of Ibiza with a weekly residency at the world biggest club, Privilege, so it was a huge privilige for it to come to Turnmills. I wasn't too familiar with what exactly was going to be played on the night, as I have never really took the time to really get interested in the techno scene; but i assure you, the music absolutely blows the roof off the club.
Turnmills always opens at 10:00-30pm so before hand, considering it was my friend's birthday, we decided to warm up in the bar next door (which i always forget the name of). Normally i'd prefer to enter the club towards midnight, but this time round i decided to enter early, and it was a good job i did because the que did really start elongating quickly (probably because eddie halliwell was spinning).
The night started off with a bang, Marco Carola, who has emerged in the last four years as one of the world's most influential exponents of techno and electronic music, started off the night by playing tribal tech, which surprisingly was really good as i'm not a humongous fan for the genre. He then crossed into pure, straight up techno so that Mauro Picotto could have something to start off with.
Mauro Picotto took over at 2am, and from then on forth, I have never seen turnmills explode in such a way. I think it's quite safe to say that normally in a club, you don't see a lot of people jumping up and down and waving their hands, but this time round you could feel the floor vibrating (it was excellent). I could see that this was bringing a massive smile on Mauro Picotto's face, which he had throughout his whole set.
Next up was the infamous Eddie Halliwell, and I especially knocked off a few people from the podium to be able to video and take pictures of him. Unfortunately I didn't knock off the right people, as there was a middle aged cyber kid who could not stop shouting 'come on Eddie, fire it up!', trying to make conversation with him 'Eddie is that your brother?!?!' and singing the lyrics from False Light. I did have the urge to slap her and say 'let the man dj for crying out loud' but i thought that would be inappropriate wink.gif. As usual, Eddie placed his mark on the night, and read the crowd perfectly. Considering we basically were listening to techno for the majority of the night, i was gagging for some form of trance to be played, and he did biggrin.gif. During his set he dropped tunes such as Thomas Bronzwaer - Shadow World and Marcel Woods - Advanced (a long with a few tunes i recognised but couldn't ID). The adrenaline Eddie fuelled the crowd with was absolutely amazing, hands in the air, screaming and shouting, it was all part of having a good time.
Unfortunately, my friend had a hockey match at 10am on the very same day, so we had to leave as soon as Eddie Halliwell finished, which was a shame, because it still felt like 8pm and i really did have one of the best times i've ever had at Turnmills.
