Again thousands of party people came traditionally together at PvD´s event „TheLovefromAbove“ on the this years „Loveweekend“ at Berlin.
Unfortunately this time PvD didnt open / finish his event, which was quite disapointing for a few people. Especially if u look back to the last years, where Paul did always play for 8 - 10 hours.
Nevertheless came again a few thousand party people to the „columbia halls“.
The Event was opened around 10 pm of Rene Vaitl, who did introduce the evening with gentle progressive beats. After him Act´s like Sasha and Edgar V did continue with the progressive show. With tracks like „irony“, „for your eyes only“ they did create a nice chilling atmosphere. The reactions of the crowd were rather mixed, if u consider that in the last years act´s like Tiesto, NuNrg and Ferry Corsten did perform nice uplifting and melodical set´s. So fans of the harder kind of music were not that amused about the 5 hours of progressive.
After around 5 ½ hours, finally the Nr. 2 Dj of the world, Paul van Dyk showed up.
He did open his set with his new single „the other side“ and finally for the most people the music became harder and faster. Paul´s set was characterised by its typical style, which is very special in Trance music. So u wont hear long breaks, or some house tunes like of Tiesto or Ferry. What u get of Paul are hard beats, with a few vocals and a lot of synth effects.
Something very special had Paul´s set as well. So he did play some big time trancers like the Tune „Gouryella“. At this moment evryone was dancing, moving his arms and feet to the beats. In the break the whole crowd did clap their hands to the rythm of the snap´s. Paul did also play the last Anthem of the Loveparade, which brought back memories about the good old days of love and peave. Some singing attempts under the crowd brought the track "wundervoll", Paul killed the mids and u could hear the people singing "Und ich tanze einfach weiter"
Like as usual Paul played a few own tracks like „Nothing but you“ and „for an Angel“. Especially at the end of the set he made some kind of Megamix of his own productions.
Around 8 am he did finish and DJ Marcos took over and brought the night / Morning to an end.
In conclusion u can say, the the evening was definately a nice journey and even if it wasn´t the usual 10 hours of PvD the crowd had him at least for almost 5 hours! Though if the first 5 hours of non stop progressive were really nessecarry is an other topic. Progressive lover´s will def. Say "hey man what do u want its cool", though i think a bit less of it or more mixed through the night would have been a bit better. Especially if u remember the last Events with Tiesto and NuNrg for instance. Also there were 2 halls in the last years which was definately a better decision. At the columbia Fritz u could chill to progressive and elektro and at the big hall u had Paul, Tjis, NuNrg or Mogwai. Also the big outdoor Area was closed this time where u could chill in the years before. Sure the beergarden was open, though there was not enough space for all the party people. The ticket price with 15 Euro was as usual cheap and the drinks were around 3-5 Euro. Unfortunately this is a standart price today....
