has anyone here seen him and actually liked what he has played?

I've seen Armin live for about 9 times and I must admid that not all his sets are superb. It just depends on his style, most of the times he plays uplifting trance but sometimes also a tribal or progressive set. So you probably had bad luck when Armin did a tribal set. But when playing a trance set Armin is the bomb.

I've seen Armin a couple of times and I've heard him many times on the radio
And I must say that Armin has variable styles in his sets but as Anjuna said:

Think he isn´t that good.
He plays music that al sounds the same and most of the time I miss the speed in the tracks

He should cut the crap with all those tribal, groove songs or whatever they are and stick to what he does best: TRANCE!!! If he does that he is one of the best DJ's in the world.

Ok I admit I've never seen him myself but when listening to many of his sets I've realized that he really seems to like tribal and progressive stuff because he plays that stuff very often and If I have to listen to that styles 50 minutes and get to hear2 uplifting tracks i'm always very annoyed because I simply know that he could do better!10 minutes tribal and progressive and 50 minutes uplifting that would be what I would like!

I think everyone has his own opinion about AVB, but for me he is really number one. And I went to almost all his gigs here in Holland and I never had a bad evening. He really know how to spin the records. And his mixing style is superb. I agree that trance is what he do best, but i like the different styles he plays.
I went to his 6 and 9 hour solo sets and i didn't got bored. But respect to other people's opinions.

Just enjoy the music !!!

Starts off prog trance, and works its way up through melodic, into uplifting. It seems to have a real flow about how it progresses.

Ive only seen Armin at the big events like Crasher and Global Gathering, and ive gotta say when he plays trance he is excellent!! Im guessing the tribal and progressive is the style hes playing to make his sets individual, similar to the way Tiesto appears to drop a lot of techno nowadays! So yeah, whilst im not a big fan of tribal/progressive, its a lot better than hearing all trance DJ's playing the same records!

Hi there,
Why this topic. It is obvious that Armin is one of the best dj's in the world and everybody sometimes has an offday, although I have never seen a bad set by Armin
I went to almost all his Dutch gigs since 1999 and he's still growin'. When he does his solo tours (4hours and more) he is on his best.
I still remember Armin solo 6 and 9 Hours Live in the EAU the Hague AWESOME.
And also his previous set in the Hague at the Asta (asot 127) was one of the best. Unfortunately only the first two hours were broadcasted because the rest of the set was amazing.
Also his shorter sets are Brilliant! Remembering Sensation and Qontact!
Well think what you think but I still think he's the best around

I totally agree with you turbotrance.
I saw him the night before @home sydney for a 5 hour set and the guy is out of this world.
he had the crowd going off all night till dawn. his set had a good variety of uplifting trance and progressive, tribal throughout.
he finished off strong in the last hour and a half with full on uplifting trance which i like the most.
the guy also has a class1 personality and engaged the crowd continuously.
he's arguably the best dj at the moment. he's truly on top of his game
you can only admire him for his true talent and appreciate his gift of composing and mixing tunes that ROCK YOUR MIND sending you IN A STATE OF TRANCE!!!

i must say that i like the old armin much more than the new one...
i've seen him live for 2 times, and they werent that good you know...
i dont know what ppz like about him

, "cause there are much better dj's than him
but everbody has his own style, so i'm not going to complain about that
and eum... with old armin i mean tracks in his *future funland*- period
his tracks now are just tooooo soft
thats my opinion about it
BUT!!!
there are a few new tunes i like

; eg: 76 Kluwer Mastermix -> Magnificent Intro

The way of taste only! For me tracklist looks pretty nice, but if u don't like it that's ok. I wasn't there so I couldn't say how it was, could agree with you about some tunes, they are a bit more proggy then Armin's usual tracklistings, but that's good to listen to something different sometimes

anjuna & AIT are the ones I agree too (and many others, didn't read all the replies yet

). Sometimes Armin plays a very disappointing set. I went to see him twice in Belgium, @ Antwerp Is Burning & @ 15 Years Illusion. I must say the set at 15Y wasn't that good at all, while the set at AIB was unbelievable. And indeed, the first one was more experimental proggy-tribal style, while the second was great trance...

I've seen Armin twice and have to say he's been superb both times. perhaps I caught his more trancy sets. Mind you I do sometimes feel myself dropping off in the second part of ASOT, prog is really not for me and I don't think it suits Armin either. He's still #1 imo

when he spins prog or tribal house hes surprisingly gr8 too!!
i also agree that hes better than both tiesto and PvD...
P.S The tracklist starts off prog house, then builds up into trance which i think is absolutely gr8 & very professional...i cant c no tribal tunes though

Anyone who has ever mixed for a crowd will understand my point. Too much trance in a set will make your crowd eager to dance, will make them want some more progressive & tribal sounds. I love trance, I really enjoy listening to it for hours and hours but when it comes to dance.... you need some other stuff to make the people go wild. I mostly use techno to move those bodies. Combination between Trance & Techno is what works best for me. And looks like a god like Armin doesn't escape to this, either...
My two cents

He played mostly commercial tracks but mixing and interaction with crowd was perfect.
He left the platform and dance with the crowd it was so funny.

That is one of the dumbest statements ive ever heard. I mean, they are good tracks.. but if the only two songs you liked out of any given set were arguably the two biggest releases of 2003, then that's just sad. I know for a fact that armin spins many quality tracks that ARENT popular.

I`ve seen Armin playing at the Dome Club in TA Israel and he totaly rocked.
He fits himself as his playlist to the crowd and the poeple. Maybe the club he played is more into tribal sound, so he was just playing according to the energy in the place.
I remember i haven`t stopped dancing when he played, I even danced when i baught drinks and when i went to P.
Best party i`ve ever been too.
the guy rocks, my personal choice for best DJ in the world today.

Recently Armin played at the Family in Brisbane Australia here 30th, was a great 6 hours he had the crowd going all night. He started with some promo mixes of some progressive trance and then hit the Hard Trance all night which was excellent.
At the end he threw a Burned with desire vinyl (he encored with it) my friend got it and they got it signed for me for my Birthday, best b'day night out ever =]

Armin is good, that is all - no DJ there is can ALWAYS be good (can you ?!) after all sometimes you run out of 'music', sometimes a bad season artists fall 'asleep' - you know.
I'm sure if Armin was reading this he wouldn't treat this topic any special attention : after all noone and nothing is perfect, and I am sure Armin is doing all he can to make his music better, as any famous dj/producer would !

i saw Armin last summer in Chicago, and he played a harder, somewhat more techier and more tribal set than what you normally hear on ASOT. i think it might've been because the Chicago crowd is used to house and techno, so he didn't want to play ALL trance for them. which is totally cool with me. i find trance a little harder to dance to, compared to house or techno. anyway... me personally, i love his sets... and i can't wait to see him again this month in Chicago!

What is a dj if he can't scratch?
They need to get all these dj's in one club just to battle it out, each dj will have an FX unit, Drum/Sampling Machine, 2 turntables, 2 cd players, and a 5 channel mixer. Now that would be something to see.
