Full Version: What Ways Do You Feel We Should Advertise?
UK Trance Alliance Forum > The site > Archived Topics > UKTA Digital Chat
Fly
The UK Trance Alliance Digital does not take anything away from how much the producer gets paid. We receive 50pence per track sale, and that all goes to the producer.

So we need to work out how to best promote you, the producer.

I feel that advertising via our user database, and the website is an excellent start.

We also need the promoters to make sure they help sell their tracks. You have the most to gain from the label being a success. So make sure all the forums, and website you visit have links to the label and your tracks. And make sure that they link via the uktrancealliance download store.Otherwise we dont earn a single penny from the label.

However i feel that until we have everything in place, ie all the informtion on how people will be paid, a contract about how and when you will be paid, and also a decent selection of tunes it would be pointless investing in advertising.

Whats your point of view. Remember that trance is no longer one of the most popular genres. And most record labels have had to close due to lack of sales. And we are unique in the fact that we sell mp3s ONLY, reducing costs such as rent for stores, and cost of vinyl production.

I would like your feedback.

This is a simple thing, it won't cost anything, and it's absolutely necessary imo:

Send Promos!! biggrin.gif

A short email, with a link to every track on the label (full 320s I mean here, not samples), to every big name dj's email you can get your hands on (and I figure you must have quite a selection of these at this stage).

We're gonna need play from at least one respected dj if we're gonna make something of this. And they're not gonna go out and buy the tracks to see if they sound good. rolleyes.gif
Bricky
[Private]Might also be a good idea to leak a few tracks to p2p. unsure.gif

Sounds crazy eh? Well it's some of the best advertising you can get, and it just costs sales. In our case because the sales are gonna be almost nil, it isn't gonna cost anything really.

Just an idea.

Actually: if we're gonna send promos, this probably won't be necessary.[/Private]

That's a nice way, but most dj's have contact forms on their website, so we should ask them their direct mail-adress first, others have their demo-adress on their website

I think members from the review section could have some more (when they did some dj interviews).

Another way is affiliating your label with internet Stations.

sensegenerate.fm is a growing station and they will like the idea with an affiliation with you.
And try others like et.fm , futuregrooves.or and maybe digitally imported.
thijsje
i'm an internal at powershout.com, maybe also an idea... however etn etc. are bigger smile.gif
thijsje
another one:

Maybe it's possible to get a radioshow somewhere on a radiostation smile.gif

(that's something meant for the long term wink.gif )
douba
like thisje i'm also at powershout and it's a great new online radio station, it could be an option.

However i think we have enough top quality members on this site that can promote our tracks. People like Hydroid, Mike Foyle, Buro, Santiago Nino, Leon Bolier etc.
RavekiD
any way tracks should be played by known or growing dj's

radio station - for sure it shuld be!

another one option, is give our tracks to dj's who is playin in clubs or small parties with agreement, that they gonna play tracks and will not put them on p2p.

i guess we have enough such dj's on forum.

and about powershout: i'm an internal there so i can always promote ukta through the internal discussions smile.gif
blackened_sky
these are all great ideas, sending promos will definitely be a good idea biggrin.gif
maybe P.R members need to be appointed?

Hydroid's ukta user name is..."Hydroid" tongue.gif and Santiago Nino is just "Santiago" i think. Buro is djing on radio and at some big events now also, so he would be a good option.

I dont know if powershout is a great option right now because the radio station is still very young. The shows only get about 50 listeners each...

and thijse, you know i'm an internal too right?!

if you send out promo's don't send the guys a link... they listen to it but 99% of the tracks they get that way they will NOT burn it on a cd... send out promo cd's in stead with a nice bio of the artist and label...

Also send out press messages of the release of the label!

there are good but never ever released quality trance tracks. I am sure members here can easily prepare such a list of tracks.. if UK Trance Alliance Digital contacted with the producers of these tracks and released them it would be good for the digital label....(and for us ta's as well)

once the label is advertised and get known, then other forum members whose tracks are released would advertise themselves more easily...

producers experiment sometimes with new styles.. if such good enough experiment tracks by well known producers are released it would be useful for advertising the label and then the member producers as well unsure.gif

i feel we need to talk about this again, as the topic went into sleep sad.gif

What about some contest? I don't mean one of these contests we have on UKTA. I mean some "open" contest for everyone. Advertised on others music sites and on radios (at least you can ask Pure.FM and Liquid.FM to add some banners on their sites).

The winner (possibly runners up) could be released in UKTA digital.
I'm pretty sure there are talents out there. At least it would attract some more attention on UKTA and UKTA digital.

If You'd see 2 banners:
1 - advertisment of "some" digital store or label (there're loades of these)
2 - contest connected with some digital store or label
what would attract your attention more? I gues the second one. wink.gif
Bricky
^^ Damn good idea I think (about the competition). I can plug it on the roadshow, on my site, and just generally with a bunch of producers I know. We can also (if we are careful about our wording) plug it on TA and trance.nu ... that'll get a few big names interested.

.. we'd get some great tracks in I think.
Warmonger
^For sure we can make a contest - it's clear that the best one of group will get more respect and attention than a bunch of single people working on their own.

But in fact, there was just finished mix contest and the remix contest is still going on. There is no problem with starting such events, but advertisement and any visible profits are hard to organise.
Warmonger
I think that direct link to mp3 store would help - right now only shop full of random crap displays, personally I found it difficult to get to the music.

thanks for that smile.gif

i will promote the direct link to the store more on the forum, and add the direct links to the "To Be Released" topics as soon the tunes are released smile.gif
thijsje
got some ideas about the promo pool thing:

in the future the author contacts the dj's he would like to have the tune played by...
so he sends the - supported by ukta - link to the dj's and saves the adresses for the rest of the promo pool. After he did that, he can give the mail adresses to me to add to the promo pool for the future and i will send the links to the rest of the promo pool smile.gif

pro's:

1. There's directly contact from the author with the big dj
2. It's a simple way to keep the promo pool up-to-date and at a healthy size
