that's def not true.

He's definitely right, the newest Athlon64 chips run much cooler than the newest Pentium 4 chips. Overheating is a big issue with the Prescotts, and since they need much larger thermal solutions to keep the temperatures down, noise goes up. Even with the older AthlonXPs, only a poorly configured system may overheat, and that's not the fault of the processor.

I'd say AMD cos they are better value, wish they'd sort out their naming for processor speeds though, how come an AMD Athlon 64 3500 actually runs at 2.2GHz? It was all much simpler before when a processor's name indicated its actual speed. Just another marketing ploy I guess.
For marketing, yes, but a ploy? That's inaccurate. People who don't know that more MHz is not necessarily better will say, "oh, that Athlon64 3500+ is only 2.2GHz, that Celeron D at 2.4GHz
must be better!" Megahertz isn't the indicator of performance anymore (AMD's architecture allows more work done per single MHz), and AMD's nomenclature accurately describes the processor in question.

For all you extreme gaming nerds out there who are hardcore fans of AMD you be in for a shock when AMD goes out of buisness. Dell is using AMD's cause there cheap. Now back to hardcore gaming. If your a hardcore gamer and you have an extra $1100 to spend, you might want to check out Intle Extreme Edition. Fasts gaming processor on the market and it comes with liquid cooling so you know its beast.
Fanboyism and faulty knowledge at it's best. AMD is actually selling more processors than Intel right now, and AMD doesn't have the benefits of Dell being the biggest customer. AMD is not going out of business anytime soon, and with the way things are going now, Intel really needs to get their act together before things fall apart. The Intel Extreme Edition is slower than both the Athlon 64 FX-57 and the dual-core 4800+ in many application, yet costs much more money. It doesn't come with "liquid cooling", but will need a large thermal solution to keep things cool compared to the flagship AMD chips.

standard AMD fan sucks even harder.. could hear it downstairs.. and i don't lie now
You haven't heard the new Athlon64 default thermal solutions yet. Since they run so cool (Cool & Quiet helps even more), the fans don't need to be very loud. I will agree that the older AthlonXP thermal solutions were pretty loud. The Intel Prescotts, on the other hand...

If you want a good gaming comp you should go for a alienware alx if you got the money to spend they are ridiculous
Nonsense. Although they do build a very good gaming machine, they are very overpriced. I can build a better computer for less money. You're paying for the name with Alienware products.
People, if you don't know the facts, don't make blanket statements. I know the difference between the two competing products to make an informed decision, and for most people today, the Athlon64 offers a better solution to their computing needs.
