I was thinking where your quality threshold is, and for that I decided to ask you all, how you people feel about quality, what quality you'd wish for, I ask this cause I need to decide something, well, I won't say anything until I am sure of something
but right now I was thinking of your opinions on :
file format, stereo encoding type, bitrate of corse, your post-processing suggestions on decompression of the music for filtering of - say noise, dist etc...,
and where your opinions stand on lossless compression, of corse I would like to know whether you do or not take bandwidth into your decisions, and where your priorities lie (e.g quality or size).
I guess that should cover much of everything, if there is something missing, let me know.

Wow, you're asking quite a lot.
I think you mean what kinda quality tracks we want to see here and to dl. In that case, whether it's concerning only me, I would love to get the highest quality possible for a decent size. 192 kbit fits best to my ears. Nice quality and good filesize. Esspecially for livesets 192 fits ver nice 'cause the filesize ain't that big at all...
I'm on ADSL, so no bandwidth problems with me.

I'll take 192 any day: both for livesets (although I love seeing them in at least 96 kbps WMA). I prefer MP3's in Joint Stereo, because that sounds just a little bit better. MP3's larger than 192 kbps might sounder better, but they take up much more diskspace.
Monohouse: you really seem concerned with the MP3 quality, don't you? Not the first topic you've opened about it.

, you do read,

, good to see you notice, btw do you have a reply there ?
one more thing i'd like to add, the encoder you think is best, I was thinking in the "Xing" direction, but if you know any other that is better let me know.
as for "Joint Stereo", your opinion on "Dual Channel" is also appreciated !

Size doesn't really matter to me, I'm on a quite fast ADSL connection. Tracks shouldn't be lower than 192 imo, livesets can be a bit lower quality cause I only listen to them on my pc. Tracks should be a bit better in quality cause I like to turn up the volume sometimes and if the quality is bad that's not so nice.

I decided that it's better to make a poll, you know the choices, I think that's the only way to know what's more appropriate to use, I just wish we all had 100-Base-TX's of 100 Mb/s

so that the more upper choices were possible

You are really obsessed with this quality thing, aren't you? <- Not that it's bad, but you keep poting topics about it. I use 192 btw.

I don't just keep posting topics - I just need to decide which quality should I use for this board - the first one has nuttin' to do with second one, and this one is a result of all of them, now that you mentioned it - don't you think that it's better to make a poll after all the topics ?

the last thing I'd want is to ruin the board and load them of my posts - that would not help me make my decision, notice the choices - they are quite different, i'm just trying to make a decision, thanks for your help, I didn't know that I posted 2 much sorry, but how otherwise I'd know the quality most appropriate for this place ?
as you can see, the list of encoders and formats is quite comprehensive in terms of quality ranges - that is the best topic I ever had on this subject !

the 2nd from the top

and with the 192Kb quality

I could say that 192 kbps is good enough. Of course I wish to have lossless audio, and even not vinyl rips but studio works, rips of tune-project files

maybe MOD's too ? (IT, S3M, XM, FT etc...)
ahhhhh, forgot to add Impulse and Madtracker to the poll, but that's more related to pruducing than to ripping

Addict-In-Trance, may I ask what connection you have ?

I think the best quality/size ratio is for 192 kbps mp3s., although i have many tracks in 160 (especially those released more than 3 or 4 years ago). But to be honest i can't hear much difference between them because i listen to them only on the speakers from my pc

I prefer 192 as most of ppl, that's the best way to listen too good quality music and the sizes of tunes are not so big to kill your harddrive fast.
Mate, u r getting crazy about all those quality things

there is more to that than it seems, I am also doing some programming in the field as well, but well, I'm trying to do the impossible I guess (making mp3 obsolete), but with time and network speed increases, this just might be a reality in a few or even less years...
the crazy part - notice that the 3 topics are unrelated to each other :
the "Lossless Audio" topic is there to find lossless audio sharing networkx
this one exists to know details of people's quality opinions
and last but not least - the poll is there to let me know what's people's most preferred choice when it comes to encoding..
but it's true they all are about quality, it's crazy LOL

lo,
Bandwith and diskspace are less important to me as good quality sound.
I prefer VBR above anything else but I am ok with the scene standard of 192 Kbps.
I wish though that livesets from the radio could become better quality. Since I am a fan of ASOT and want to listen to it loud in my car or stereo, I hope in the future the quality will get better.

Euphoric

Haha Screamtracker 3 (S3M) that's soo poor bad crappy quality.. it's sad.
I've used IT allot and i think it's the best... even better than XM.
But get to the point.. It doesn't really matter what kind of KB/S i use..
But i prefer 128 to 192.... hmmz i have to Delete ""GTA - Vice City "" to make some space for my mp3's

n/p, maybe that's my fault (sorry), do you happen to remember the poll's results ?
I agree, IT is better than anything, my last track was produced with IT

btw, isn't that the stanton str8-100 ?
a very nice beginner-class patiphone (lol, turntabel)
I think you put them both in the wrong order, maybe you could
put the poll first and then add the topic afterwards
