i want to know what everyones parents think when they play trance? do they hate it? do they like it? or do they think you have some sort of issues cos you listen to it?
my parents only tend to see the bad side of it. they don't like it and think that because i play it, listen to it and am associated in the DJ scene that i'm on drugs. When i brought DJ equipment home they freaked blink.gif It hasn't changed me as a person at all. How wrong are they! but how do you show them that its not what they think...
i don't take drugs, i am only in it for the music and thats it. i'm one of the few people that actually appreciate the music, not the scene...

It doesn't help as bad news travels faster then good and they automatically think of raves and the things that go on there.

whats your thoughts...

My mother has heard lots of tracks due to me. I have to say she likes it if it's something like e.g. IIO - Rapture (Armin van Buuren Remix) or Mark Otten tunes but dislikes it if it's an Armin van Buuren - Serenity or M.I.K.E., etc.
If you happened to ask this 45-year-old woman if she knew Armin, she'd definitely say YES, of course! wink.gif There were periods in her life when she wanted me to write trance audio CDs only.
As for my father. He doesn't care cause he just doesn't really like music. He does like some but his 'style' is neutral smile.gif.
They have never thought I use drugs just because I listen to this style. They understand me because they both know there were producers in the past too whose music was hard to get. My mother knows Mike Oldfield, she gave me those kind of tracks when I was a baby (to make me shut the f... up for God's sake and go to sleep laugh.gif). Thus she's not surprised about my taste in music.
It seems that I'm lucky then...

Well my dad loves Paul Oakenfold - Southern Sun,,, i have to burn it onto an CD sometimes he said. , for the rest,, they don't like my KRK monitors that much rolleyes.gif tongue.gif , if a track contains a good singing vocal, they really like it. smile.gif

well since i live with my mum wich i think is the coolest mum ever.
she doesn't hate trance / techno / all other styles she actually likes almost everything i play and i can mix in my room at full volume and she never complains , sometimes she comes in to listen.
it's not like she listens herself sometimes but she doesn't mind she supports me in my whole dj-ing trip... and actually gave me some extra money so i can finish saving for my turntables soon biggrin.gif

laugh.gif so its better when they dont like it laugh.gif

my parents dont care that much as long its not too loud
BoTi
Well, yeah mostly have problems when i turn the volume really up aswell. They don't like "tracks which have beats in them"... laugh.gif Sounds really funky... laugh.gif
But otherwise I'm really happy with their reaction, they rarely say anything about it nowadays, maybe it's cause they've been hearing it for like 4 years continuously every day and got used to it... tongue.gif Sometimes they ask me though: "don't you have any tracks with vocals in them?"...
I noticed that they like trance more then prog or house. So I'm sure they like tracks with more melody much better. I even made some casettes to listen in the car... that went better then expected. biggrin.gif
So after all I'm pleased about what they think about my music. rolleyes.gif

my parents don't like the bass boom boom. they say, why can't you listen to it without that boom noise. just play it more quietly laugh.gif
Rick Valentine
I live with my Mum and tend to drive her up the wall by having my music on.
I have it pretty damn loud when im mixing witch is quite alot but she says the problem is the bass laugh.gif all she hears is boom boom boom she says.
She dosent mind trance music if its got vocal in and slower such as progressive trance one tune she hates is Fred Baker - Total Blackout Hahahaha.
I guess she has delt with the fact im aiming for a career so she is letting me off by playing loude music laugh.gif bless.

Hahaha yes my Dad likes his trance especailly when he was into the scene back in the 90's he visited Gatecrasher etc.
So he loves it when he hears a classic, he listens to the tunes i play now though and theres alot of them he likes hes always asking me if ive done any more mixes on cd.
He loves Above & Beyond With Andy Moor - Air For Life he said he likes the kinda irish feel to the vocal.
He also likes breakdowns and hands in the air stuff like Rank 1 - Airwave his fav tune of all time.
Its good when i got cds knocking arround i dont listen to he often has them and when i work with him he asks me to bring a cd laugh.gif hes sound.

It is so good to stay on your own and to play trance music whenever you want and louder you want ... biggrin.gif cool.gif Hello you tranceaddicts ! cool.gif
Alexander_Alpert
Well that's funny that this topic just came up because my dad was in my car and I had some trance playing and he and I got into a debate about trance and how much he doesn't like it because "it all sounds the same." And this is coming from a person who actually never took the time to listen to it to discern the differences in Artists, tracks, sounds, and etc. My dad was predicting the end of trane because no one listens to it...So I thought that was very funny because he just doesn't know what he was talking about...Though the above mentioned, my mom and dad were in Miami and spent some time at Nikki's Beach and a few lounge hangouts where trance is played and he brought back with him about four or five CD's of this slower, deep house trancy kind of music that was very chill and relaxing...so it boils down to them liking the music but very selective. For starters, if they're in the mood, it has some kind of vocals or a relaxing beat, nothing that hits too strong with bass then they're all game for the music.
DjDriv236
Believe it or not, my folks are very open minded to it!! My father doesn't pay that much attention to it, but my Mom hears it and gets interested. She loves the sounds (etc.). She says... "Its like an updated version of classical music with a beat!!" I guess she has a point with some tunes!! But anyway, I send her my mixed sets on msn all the time, her favorite track is "Emery & Kirsch - Lose Yourslelf (Gareth Emery Remix)." Guess I have good supporting parents!! wink.gif

Both my Mum and Dad think it is ok but a say it is too repetative, my Dad used to pick me up from work and would always have Judge Jules on the radio so it shows he takes an interest in it!

had mates round for a BBQ the other week as well and had trance on all day and my Dad asked me to burn him a CD, so he must like it a bit...

I think they know what i get up to when i go clubbing as well cos they have been through it all before with my sister who used to go cream a lot! biggrin.gif
defacto
they don't like it. they say this is not music. Always the same
