I've been a big fan of

Portishead - Roads (Sultan & the Greek remix)

for a bit. Some world class progressive.

Hence, I was a little distressed to see hear it on Tiesto's ISOS4 .. labelled as

Tonedepth & Soultan - Moments

and in the small print ...

"Tonedepth & Soultan-Moments
written + produced by tony papadopoulos(tonedepth) & Ossama Al Sarraf(soultan).
Published by magik muzik.Black hole records."

Not a mention of Portishead. ranting.gif

Now the two songs are not identical. There's a tiny change in the melody (so small that it's hard to notice), and the vocals are missing on Tiesto's CD (although they were a very small part of the other release). But these two are the same song ... no doubt about it.

Can anyone cast any light on why Portishead was left out of the credits?

Edit: Samples added

i noticed this myself as well, don't know the original portishead though

so am i wrong if i believe that Tonedepth & Soultan produced the whole tune and threw in some vocals of the original portishead...

so the production without vocals has nothing to do with portishead what so ever,
seems like the most obvious reason that i can think of ... if im correct that is wink.gif

ow and yes that song is amazing, i like 'roads' more btw. biggrin.gif

There's a fair chunk of the music from roads in their remix too. Indeed I think everything except the percussion is from Portishead.

I'd post up a sample, but I'd probably get in trouble hypocritesmiley.png

Hmm .. yeah .. both, Roads and Moments sound the same for me .. the same guitars, etc. .. the little difference is at the break imo .. the Sultan & the Greek remix of Roads has the same chords as the original one from Portishead .. but not Moments .. please correct me if I’m wrong .. unsure.gif

.. and no problem about posting a sample smile.gif

Chopping up some samples now ...

I'll edit the first post with them in a minute.

And if anyone has a problem with me posting these (short, low-quality) samples .. let me know. I'll take them down.

They couldn't release it as a dub mix of Roads (as probably they wanted to) so they made some minor changes and renamed it.
dol
As above but someone here said that Portishead wanted no part in ISOS4 so the vocals were taken out and the portishead name dropped.

Sounds like a damn good explanation.
I hope this is the case, I prefer it to the alternative.

Just listening to the (non existant) original mix of Roads there ... and I must make a correction:

the lead guitar from these remixes, it doesn't appear in it. So I was wrong in what I said above about all the music coming from the original.
Xhileno
Now it all makes sense. ohno-smiley02.gif

I was under the impression that Portishead was tonedepth and soultan, just under another name. blink.gif At least that's what I head a while ago.

I prefer the original by Portishead...
This is a very long and boring trance mix... i don't like it... nono.gif

Tiësto couldn't get Portishead to give him the credits to include the track on ISOS4, so he asked Sultan & ToneDepth to make a new version for the album, which they did. However, they couldn't use the vocals of Portishead, so they made a non-vocal version, and a slight change in the breakdown.
