Many of you know that I work in a swimmingpool as a lifeguard.
at the end of this year I'm already doing it for 3 years.

And today was the change of my life.
For the first time in 2,5 years I had to rescue someone, a little girl.
She was going of the slide without adult supervision and she couldn't swim.
So I jumped into the pool and rescued her from the water.
Colleagues where quickly at the scene and nobody was injured.
She was just scared and I was ok.
Her mother hadn't learned anything from what happened because 5 minutes later we had to ask her to go away as her daughter was still swimming without a lifejacket.

For me it was a special day as I now know more why we are standing there a whole day watching people swim.
It was a good start of my 5 week break as I'm going on holiday next week.
And I'm proud that I had saved her from drowning hypocritesmiley.png

Well.............she was angry that she had to fill in the paperwork while she wanted to swim rolleyes.gif
And she didn't learn anything from it as she was removed from the pool 10 minutes later as he daughter was again swimming without a lifejacket blink.gif unsure.gif

And yes, I'm proud of myself that my reaction was good smile.gif

well i have been a duty manager now for nearly 2 years, and incharge of a team of full time and part time lifeguards, and its good to hear you enjoy your job. Unfortunately we just have a rectangular pool, no slides etc. So lifeguards can get a little distracted.

However i have been around pools all my life, and i guess i will spend a large percentage of the rest of it around them. I just hope i dont have to rescue someone. It shows your a good lifegaurd though, as provention is the key wink.gif

Man, I lifeguarded for 4 summers and I used to swim in a pool all summer long at camp. I never had to make a rescue. To tell the truth, it was harder recertifying my CPR than it was to lifeguard, but I miss it all just the same. Good show! Enjoy yer vacation. Oh, and while your at it, release another album in Germany during your vacation. biggrin.gif

remember when I was a kid and fell in the deep end of a pool and nearly drown

a stranger by the side of the pool saw me fall in and just ran over and pulled

me out.

Never had a chance to thank him sad.gif

Where I lifeguarded, there were some really dead spots during the day when there would have 4 swimmers or less. Yet, we still had two guards on duty. So, this one guard and I made a deal that one would sit in the chair and the other would sit on a bench against a wall behind the chair (it was an indoor pool). The one on the bench would be allowed to doze. It was a good plan and worked well for both of us ... until one day we were both woken up by the sounds of our snores echoing throughout the room! laugh.gif
