A. Umek Recycled Remix
Umek brings us one of the long awaited remixes of this past year’s highly acclaimed techno tune. The remix grasps the best of tribal and hard techno all in one. Starting it up with speed and energy, he brings in the captivating atmosphere from the original mix very early in the track. He also gives us a chance to hear the hard, measure-long breakbeat from the original mix. Throughout most of the rest of the track, he has his fun varying the bass hits and throwing in his own sound. Other than a few minor variations and a brief breakdown, which he uses to include a long, filtered, sweeping bass note, the track is rather repetitive. However, I think this is the sound Umek was going for. In conclusion, my favorite aspect of this remix is that he clearly expresses his own style, while at the same time embracing the very best of the original mix. If you liked the style of the original song, you are sure to like this remix from Umek
B. Paco Osuna Remix
I have truly got to hand it to Osuna for this one. The B side remix was a lot less tribal than Umek’s, but equally hard, if not harder. From the start, you can tell you’re in for a treat. The power kicks in right away as the tough, sharp kick accompanies the harsh and loose high hats, which alternate throughout different points in the track. Osuna pushes a very simple structure to its limit, taking advantage of the original mix’s bass line. In fact, he employs lots of the original track’s elements in his remix, using them differently than Dahlback & Krome did, in order to add variation. From start to finish, this thing is a work of beauty, yet it doesn’t quite top the work of Umek. Definitely give this one a chance, it is sure to please many.
