Have you tried MixMeister Pro? So far I've done all my mixes with it. Tho it's not very good for live mixing, if that's what you want to do... But I surely recommend you to check it out (if you haven't already, that is

howdy from South Africa
I also use mixmeister (which I think is AWESOME) for making my own personal compilations to listen to in the car etc.
I am NOT trained or clued up, but it's such a cool and easy to use bit of software, that even I can manage.
What version are u using?

I have 1.01 (build 11)
But yeah, that's the beauty of this program that *anyone* can learn how to work with it in like five minutes. And tho it's very easy to use, the mixing outcome can be really professional

I use MixMeister too and it's great! Just the latest tracks in a good mix! For live mixing with mp3's I use MixVibes Pro 4.

Mixvibes Pro4 seems to be the most professional/functional, with full kills and accurate pitching, etc. i only have a demo version though so cant mix a set over 30mins
and i've used atomixmp3, automatic beatmatching makes it easy but it seems a bit like cheating!

I still use VirtualTurntables my carrot innovations, been using it for about 4 years - still does the job for me!
Takes some tweaking to work properly in XP - but its worth it because is far easier to use than alot of the newer packages.
No auto BPM, but there is a manual beat counter

FYI:
http://carrot.prohosting.com - the links on the site for download dont work, if anyone wants it i can upload my copy of the setup binary to my web server.

I think that no one should use mp3 mixers when doing live mixes because it does not show your true ability. Therefore hurting you in the long run so when you do live shows and people are expecting the flawless you.........well your just not.

traktor dj studio 2 is not a bad mp3 mixing program, but at the end of the day they are all just toys compared to using vinyl
my advice,if your serious about your music get some tt's a mixer and some decent phones.you'll get a lot more satisfaction doing a good mix with vinyl than you ever will by using auto beat match mp3 software, sure it's a lot harder and takes plenty of practice, but i guarantee you will enjoy it more!

Depends on what you are using them for dude? what if a Prod/DJ guy had fresh tracks he had just produced? and a stable laptop, i would love the fact that he could get up and drop the freshest tracks he has rather than playing what everyone else is playing, just as Josh Gabriel did on the Gabriel and Dresden "A State of Trance" show a month ago. He just got up there and slammed his fresh tracks down on an MP3 mixer straight from his Laptop....

plus there is also room for guys to lay down some badbwoy sets in "Live PA's" or dropping sneaky mp3 effects into your main sets.... I use tracktor 2 myself after 11 years mixing with 1210s and love both of them,

would love the fact that i could use both! that would be f**kin MAD! ;o) My personal view would be to use both whenever you can really, not just 1 or the other.... true ability i recon is what you can do with both, but then again, i'm just another persons view...
oh, i'd say wait for Tracktor 2.5, read up on it, then decide.... in the development, they have consulted propper industry DJ's... could be kool

Mixmiester fan here...works great....makin some good mixes that i can listen to when im in front of my computer....or to use to design sets to use on tables....works great then you not sitting their burining out your tables.....just figure out what songs you would want to use in a set...make sure they sound good together....then also make sure you have the same vinyl versions....which is not to hard....and start spining on your tables......
i like using both....develops your scenses more accuratly to the sounds and beats....

how do you mix live with one laptop? I saw PVD doing it a few nights ago. I was told he uses IMIX by Mac..............
how can you beatmatch the songs????
I have to see someone use it to find out how its done.
ANYWAY: I dont like anyone that mixes with a computer........whats next? the DJ delivers his set on a CD and leaves?
I dont go to PVD to watch him fiddle with a computer........I WANT TO SEE LIVE MIXING.........

Tell you what guys - the best app (although its still a bit buggy) is Atomix Productions latest and greatest software called Virtual DJ - its fantastic and straight forward to use so even the lesser skilled amogst us can put in a hlaf tidy mix.
10/10
get the demo and get impressed - i've bought the software after playing with the demo -unfortunately you cant use 2 sound cards in the demo unless you know where to get a "gravy" version - which i dont
Upgraded from PCDJ RED Pro and i'm never looking Back (tried PODJFX) and found it too fiddly.
hope this helps chappies
Matt.
Virtual dj is very good, although it's very demanding on your computer. If you want to create a nice set easily, go with Mixmeister. Because turntables on a computer still suck, because of the lag that you experience and the fact that you can't use all the buttons at the same time.

First of all, I don't believe that anyone should slate something that they don't have any personal experience using. They're in no position to do so.
I have live mixed using TT's and the latest versions of Atomix, BPM Studio, PCDJ, Mixmeister and Traktor (recently got version 2.5 to try out). Each of these tools has at least some advantage over the others. The DJ software industry is still in it's infancy. The manufacturers are only now starting to realise that trying to emulate the mechanics and capabilities of turntables (or CDJ's) in software is like trying to play snooker with a broomstick.
Face it. A notebook computer is not a set of decks! Don't expect it to behave like they do! This radically different technology comes with it's own unique set of shortfalls and special abilities, just like turntables do. Think back a little bit. When TT's were invented, they were never intended to be used the way that they are by DJ's today. They technology was modified and enhanced to suit the purpose to which DJ's wanted to put it.
In the same way, software mixing solutions are starting to take proper advantage of the personal computer, but the evolution is taking some time. It started out by trying to mimic the behaviour of TT's in software, and now products like Mixmeister, BPM Studio and Traktor (to name a few) are demonstrating that by breaking away from the turntable paradigm, they are able to deliver even greater functionality than will ever be possible with decks.
My personal favourite is Traktor (especially the new version - it rocks!). It's stable, well thought out, and has a most useful trick of allowing you to independantly vary the tempo (BPM) and pitck (Key) of a track. This is an AWESOME tool. If you haven't tried it yet, give it a spin. Available from www.nativeinstruments.de
The other notable mention is BPM Studio from Alcatech. This is as extremely advanced and powerful piece of software. Perhaps a little bit too complex unless you're using their remote control panel with it.
Vinyl still requires a great deal of skill and is a great deal of fun. As with all those people who thought that the automobile would never replace or improve upon the horse-drawn cart, those who do not believe that TT's will become obsolete in the face of technological improvement are fooling only themselves.

If you want to practise mixing on your yown, Traktor DJ studio can do a great job for you, I'ts my personal favourite (because it's much cheaper and easier of course) ......but nothing matches those real turntables

(but you already knew that of course)

If You're an amateur or You don't have much experience with mixing as a DJ, the best solution for You is "AtomixMP3" (the latest version is 2.2); in other hand I'll suggest "Native Instruments Traktor DJ Studio"!!!

I used to spin with tt's in 1973-1994 in clubs. I have 2 panasonic technics that are now gathering dust. After that I used Numark double cd and mixer - cost me 4K for the equipment. You guys don't know how lucky you are NOT to have to deal with tt's and vinyl. I used to spin "LP's", that's long playing records. No dub, beat synch.. just the ear. Thank god we're being released from any kind of physical medium... I vote for TRAKTOR!

Sorry to disagree buddy. I've done all kinds of mixing, and sure, vinyl is fun... but the accuracy you get using traktor is much higher, and I will explain:
There is pitch control, so you don't always have to use beatmatching... in fact you don't have to use it at all if you don't wish to... you just have to own the same headphones you were talking about and off course a nice soundcard that enables multiple channel output, this way you can listen to your mixing on the headphones and play as usual on the other output.
I've mixed everthing.... trance with drum n bass and breaks... no beatmacher could match correctly if you don't have the defined 4 by 4 beats of trance or house... but then instead of that i use my usual technique with software... enabling me to see the wave, hear the s**t, and off course take advantage of superior filtering and eq.
Traktor Dj Studio 2.0 or 2.5 is indeed the pro way to go... in fact, if you wish, you could even buy final scratch, which is a cool way of mixing vinyl techniques with the software.... just load the mp3 and use turntables to mix... weird but cool.... Danny Tenaglia used this method on his latest album.
